LET: name the parts of a formula
Give a repeated calculation a name inside a formula with LET, so you write it once, change it in one place and read the formula like a sentence.
In this lesson
- Names start with a letter, have no spaces and can't look like a cell (A1, Q1).
- A name can use the names before it:
=LET(subtotal,B2*C2+D2,discount,IF(subtotal>2000,10%,0),subtotal*(1-discount)). - Why: change a repeated piece in one place, read the formula like a sentence, and each value is worked out once.
